An exciting new chapter for Pathway Counselling

Transforming Trauma Project, internal recruitment

With heartfelt thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund, and to the players of The National Lottery whose contributions make every grant possible, the Transforming Trauma project is restarting on Tuesday 26 May 2026. We are recruiting three core posts within Pembrokeshire Care Society / PATH to deliver it.

About the project

Pathway Counselling, established in 2023, has received over 1,300 referrals and supported more than 1,000 individuals, with a one-week average referral-to-first-session time and PHQ-9 score reductions from 19.1 (moderately severe depression) to 7.1 (mild). The Transforming Trauma project delivers trauma-informed counselling to adults across Pembrokeshire affected by trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), late-diagnosed neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, grief and complex relationship issues, through one-to-one counselling and the 10-week Trauma Tool Kit group programme, alongside PATH's wider housing, homelessness and welfare services.

About this recruitment

In agreement with our funder, this round of recruitment is being advertised internally within Pembrokeshire Care Society / PATH. We particularly encourage applications from people with an existing connection to our work: current colleagues, former colleagues, trainees, partners and volunteers who have contributed to Pathway Counselling.

All three posts are 12-month fixed-term, in line with the project funding period, and based at 19 Market Street, Haverfordwest, with some delivery across community venues in Pembrokeshire. Working patterns can be agreed at appointment.

About the role

Pathway Counselling has supported more than 1,000 people since launching in 2023. Our average time from referral to first session is one week. Across engaged clients, PHQ-9 scores improve from an average of 19.1 (moderately severe depression) to 7.1 (mild). Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, our Transforming Trauma project offers a phased therapeutic model: a 10 week Trauma Tool Kit (TTK) group programme, 12 week blocks of individual therapy (extendable where clinically indicated) and structured aftercare. As part of PATH you will work alongside colleagues delivering homelessness, housing, welfare and legal support, so clients with complex needs are met through a single trusted door.

We are looking for a qualified counsellor registered with BACP, UKCP, BABCP, NCS or an equivalent body at Registered Member level or above, with demonstrable experience of trauma informed practice with adults.

What you will do

Clinical practice

•       Conduct comprehensive client assessments covering trauma, risk, suitability for therapy and any safeguarding concerns

•       Deliver individual therapy in 12 week blocks, extending to 18 or more sessions where clinically indicated

•       Provide integration sessions at 2 and 4 weeks following completion of therapy

•       Help facilitate the 10 week Trauma Tool Kit group programme where capacity allows

•       Maintain accurate records in the Blue Door CRM in line with GDPR and PCS information governance policy

•       Administer PHQ-9, GAD-7 and other agreed outcome measures at agreed clinical intervals

Governance, supervision and safeguarding

•       Attend regular individual and group clinical supervision in line with BACP or equivalent requirements

•       Maintain professional registration, indemnity insurance and CPD relevant to trauma informed practice

•       Adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework or equivalent standards

•       Operate within PCS safeguarding policies and the wider Welsh safeguarding framework, identifying, recording and acting on concerns in line with local and national protocols

•       Liaise with the Mental Health Manager and Designated Safeguarding Lead as required

Wider service contribution

•       Contribute to mentoring of trainee counsellors on placement where caseload and experience allow

•       Feed back to the Mental Health Manager on emerging client needs and service gaps

•       Participate in evaluation, client feedback collection and outcome reporting for funders

•       Work alongside PATH’s homelessness, housing and advice colleagues to support clients with complex intersecting needs

What you will bring

Essential

•       A recognised qualification in counselling or psychotherapy at Level 4 Diploma or higher, or an equivalent training pathway accepted by your registration body

•       Current registration with BACP, UKCP, BABCP, NCS or equivalent at Registered Member level or above

•       Active personal indemnity insurance

•       Demonstrable experience of trauma informed therapy with adults

•       Experience of safeguarding concerns in a clinical setting

•       Experience using validated outcome measures such as PHQ-9 and GAD-7 in routine practice

•       Sound understanding of trauma informed care principles (safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, empowerment) and phased trauma treatment

•       Awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences and their impact on adult mental health

•       Familiarity with safeguarding frameworks in Wales

•       Current safeguarding training and willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check

•       Ability to travel across Pembrokeshire (driving licence and vehicle or equivalent arrangements)

Desirable

•       Specialist further training in trauma, for example Trauma Recovery Model, EMDR, sensorimotor approaches or CBT for Trauma

•       BACP Accredited or Senior Accredited status, or equivalent with another body

•       Experience of group work or joint facilitation

•       Experience working with neurodivergent clients

•       Experience supporting people affected by homelessness, housing insecurity or social disadvantage

•       Welsh language skills, oral or written, and willingness to be listed as a Welsh speaking practitioner

•       Lived experience that informs your practice

Working environment

The role is based at 19 Market Street, Haverfordwest with delivery across community venues including the Green Shed in Haverfordwest, public libraries in Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock and other partner sites. The role offers a hybrid working pattern combining in person, online and telephone delivery. PATH’s registered office is at 7 Picton Place, Haverfordwest, where corporate, finance and HR functions are based.

Our vision is that of a caring, inclusive society where everyone matters, has a sense of belonging and works positively in the service of others.

PATH recruits new team members through a process based upon our values, which inspire, challenge, and motivate us as an organisation. They permeate the work and behaviour of everyone at PATH and underpin the decision-making process.

People

Prevention

Partnership

Purpose

PATH believes in people and is committed to developing the skills and unlocking the full potential of our service-users. We work to empower those affected by homelessness to make decisions, set goals and gain confidence so they can shape their own futures.

PATH is committed to tackling the underlying causes of homelessness and social exclusion. We believe that we can play a pivotal role in early prevention of the social and economic factors that lead to homelessness. Through this understanding we want to inspire people to realise their role in creating a more ethical and caring society that supports and provides service to others.

We are an active organisation in tackling homelessness - working in partnership with Government, local authorities, the private sector, churches and other voluntary agencies. Together we achieve the best possible outcome for people experiencing homelessness. Working through an integrated approach we believe in offering the support, education, and skills so that service users can be the best they can be. We believe in equality and opportunity for all, so that every individual can live a life that is both fulfilling and rewarding.

PATH believes it has a purpose to respect the dignity, justice and rights of all. These rights must be upheld and safeguarded. Within our organisation the duty to consider and uphold the rights and responsibilities of staff, volunteers and service users is paramount. Our partners and trustees have a right to expect a consistently high level of service and integrity. We are committed to delivering it.
